so will that 20 gallon tank fit a 99 shortbox ranger?

My 2011 has a 19.5, so it might. You might need to have an extended cab in order to make it work.

My point was, you might need to have the longer frame of an extended cab in order for there to be enough room to shoe horn a 20 gallon tank in. They are about a foot longer than a regular cab frame.
 
i gotcha bro, would really like a bigger tank with v8. researching for a few minutes now, looks like fuel cell is the way to go, and im not willing to go that far. back to crazy ranger stuff, i used it to haul limbs from back yard, they were long enough cedar limbs to cover length of truck, had to hang out window and drive 5speeder all the way to the front yard to dump em at the curb! no pics, but it was definitely a sight! these poor trucks!

I owned my '06 Ranger for 11 years now. That is a very practical vehicle.

It carried everything to build my garage except the trusses. It towed a project car home, does several firewood hauling trips per year and is used as a truck nearly everytime it is used. I don't use it as a commuter unless the winter weather is very bad (it's only 2WD, but has more ground clearance than my car). I took it once to Hershey fall meet (10 hours drive) and good thing I did, as the very first thing my father in law bought was a 30s Auburn bumper that would not have fit in my car.

My not-so-good adventures include exceeding the official tow limit with a trailer full of sand that I was taking to my brother's home about an hour away. The truck was doing fine up to an unexpected road closure due to road construction which led me to a detour up a steep and long incline. I had the accelerator to the floor and the truck could barely keep up to 20 mph. I reached the top with a long line of cars behind me.

Not having 4x4 led to an interesting solution. I once used my truck to back up an inboard engine-equipped boat in the water. After the boat ride, we secured the boat to its trailer but as I tried to get it out, my rear wheels just kept digging in the mud. I always keep a tow chain in the cab so I backed up my wife's Sienna in front of my truck and hooked the van's hitch to my trucks's front trailing arm. The van was on solid ground so by using 2 vehicles we achieved 4WD and got the boat out.

And unfortunately, my Ranger is also the only vehicle that left me stranded. I had my box full of plastic pallets and after grabbing lunch on the way home the truck started sputtering and misfiring pretty bad, check engine light came on and such. I lost so much power and the engine was shaking so much that I couldn't make it safely home not knowing what was happening. For the first time in my life I had to be towed home. It turned out to be a cracked coil pack causing misfiring on one or two cylinders (can't remember).

2017 Hurricane Irma in FL. We’re at my bud’s house and his wife says I know I could collect a lot of relief supplies (friend of hers just moved to the Keys) if I had a way to get them there. I was off work because of surgery on my hand so I wave my hand with the brace on it and said I got nothing else to do and I have a truck with a cap. Drove between Homestead and Big Pine Key every day for a week to deliver and help at a church, back to Savannah, GA to meet my wife with the rest of the supplies that I couldn’t fit, and did the same for another week. Just had a routine rear brake job done on my Ranger... it took over two weeks and $1,000. All because I had to spend hours tracking down what the correct backing plate part number was and find 2 of them. The passenger side was nowhere to be found. So I turned a driver side into a passenger side. What sucks, is, I changed the rear differential fluid out about 2 months ago. Then it had to be all done over again, to get the axle apart. ...Oh well, it’s all great, now!
