Hello, I've been trying to figure this out for some time now. Almost every time I run my bronco for a while it will shut off and then wont start again, I also noticed that if I drive and then turn it off and try to start it back up a few minutes later it wont start again. Any thoughts on what it could be?

A sensor breaks down when it gets hot and tells the PCM that i.e. no oil pressure, coolant too hot, etc. so the PCM shut the engine down.

In-tank fuel pump getting hot and stop pumping.

I'm sure others will chime in that are more knowledgeable.

Kinda sounds like the TFI module is flaking out. Should be attached to the distributor. Parts stores used to be able to test them, or at Least Autozone could. Been a few years since I had to though, my F-series trucks are new enough that Ford had already relocated them to a heat sink on the fender and I was going to do the mod in the tech pages on moving it from the distributor to the fender when I put my 88 back together. If you do get it tested, if it passes the first time, have them test it a few more times, often they have to get a little warm to fail the test (which is why it will work when the engine is cold)

Get a McCully Racing TFI module RELOCATION Kit! :)

Almost always the TFI module when that happens, I have had good luck with the Wells brand, but, have not bought one in 6+ years so I do not know if the quality changed. If you get a slew of random error codes, that is another clue the TFI module is bad. Plus, they had a wiring harness issue too, basically wires would get loose.

Nice link, they seem reasonable

I believe that kit price has come down a bunch.

I think I'm going to buy one for the G-Unit.

That looks cool. I don't see how they could be very well attached to the distributor though.wonder if you could gut the old TFI module and solder the wires inside somehow and re-bolt it. It is designed to be stuck in those female sockets solid, not just wires and spades hanging around.

180 bucks from McCully Racing buys the whole lot in a 9 wire harness plug and play. Never seen it live but it looks cool online! Real Tempting. I don't have the trouble most have with heat on TFI's.

Actually, there might be something in the tech archives or somewhere on the site here about doing just that. I remember reading about it long ago. Also, some full size trucks got a retrofit kit, but it’s pretty rare to come across them anymore.

Mines solid as a rock, has been in 3 months w/NO issues whatsoever! YMMV..

relocate your inertia switch from below the heater core on the passenger floor to the body frame, behind the kick panel.
