Engine swapping

Hi guys, I am new to the site and just purchased a 2000 Ranger 3.0 4x4 for my new work truck. Well needless to say it is lacking on power and I was wondering if my 97' Explorer 4.0 would fit.. My truck is 2000 3.0 VFMXEO155FBE and my Explorer is a 97' 4.0 VFM1120AYMED. Will they interchange and if so how hard of a job is it and do I need any addaptors. They are both automatics 4x4s. Well the 4.0L came factory in Ford Rangers so yes it will fit. You cannot just take out your 3.0L and drop in a 4.0L expecting it to bolt to the same transmission and use the same computer/sensors. Check out our tech library first, then hit up the engine swap section in these forums.

Is this 4.0L OHV or SOHC? While both would be an improvement from the 3.0l the SOHC will make the most difference. The swap itself shouldn't be too complicated. Some areas you will want to look for is the PATS system, transmission, and computer/wiring. But remember, the Ranger came factory with this engine so there won't be any "custom" parts or engineering involved.
