I have a 2000 Ranger with the 2.5 engine, and I need to find the engine serial number in order to register the truck here in France. Does anyone have any memory of seeing the number stamped somewhere on the engine/block/manifold somewhere? I have searched everywhere, and cannot find anything except the sticker on the timing belt cover. I have read somewhere that the engine number is the same as the last 6 digits of the VIN, but none of the numbers on the sticker match the VIN.

I am the original owner of the truck, so I know that nothing "creative" has been done with the engine since it was sold.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure about the 4 cyl but on v6 engines there is a sticker on the valve cover
