Engine questions, trans and turbos

A 4cyl SOHC non-turbo with distributor and carb, and with manual transmission in a 2WD vehicle without power steering, power brakes or power windows and door locks would be "reliable"

Any changes add possible failures

So not sure what you are asking?

The 2019 Rangers have not been on the road long enough to establish "reliable"
Ford Trucks tend to be "reliable" but.............there have been some "dog years"

Now that they have been on the road for a couple years now... I think there would be some searchable results on the internet. Long term reliable is still probably questionable.

The 2.3l EcoBoost has had a variation in production since 2015 in both the Mustang and the Lincoln MKC. The 10 speed transmission (10R80) has been in production since 2017. At this point the powertrain is pretty well vetted.

+1 what rangerx4 said. One benefit of the Rangers generally receiving off the shelf parts from other vehicles is that the other vehicles have worked out most of the issues of a new design. That being said, RonD isn't wrong either.

My 2019 has held up fine so far with no issues with only one recall for a possible electrical connection issue for the tail light harness. The base engine, without the turbo, has been around a long time as the 2.3 Duratec. So, the base engine has a proven reliability. Having direct injection and being force fed may cause some long term issues but not much has shown up in the other vehicles it's been used in. One thing it may have an issue with, is the same issue most of the ecoboost engines have seen with coking on the intake valves from oil vapor from the positive crankcase system. Since the engine kept the oil separator from the 2.3 Duratec engine, how much of a problem, if any, it may be is yet to be known.
