i have a 1979 ford mustang with a 5.0. im having a problem were when i put the battery in the car the engine starts to turn over right away. i have checked my grounds and the solenoid. please give me any ideas of what might be wrong thanks.

has to be the solenoid, there's no other way for it to be possible, unless you've got the solenoid wired wrong... make sure your positive is on one big post, and your starter is on the other...

i hope you didn't find this while the car was in gear!

no it was in park when i found out. i was puting the battery back in after storing it all winter.

Yeah, sounds like the solenoid is arching out...there should be a plastic tab between the two posts where you connect the battery and sometimes this breaks off allowing a short...if that's not the case then it's shorting internally...and you just need to replace the solenoid...

I've had two or three go bad on me over the last ten years...some broken, some look fine on the outside...

i lied, there could be a short somewhere else, that is causing power on the signal wire...
