Hey guys, where would I find the block code/serial number on my 2.3? I need to order a rebuild kit and I got this motor out of a donor truck. Motor was supposed to be an 88 but its not a roller cam so its somewhere between 85-87 and I believe there is a couple of gasket changes in those years.

You can see the number in this 2.3L block picture on the passenger side front of the block.

Awesome. Thanks. How do I go about decoding the number?

'89 was the first year for the roller cam. If it has a distributer its an '88 or older engine. '89+ had coil pack ignition & dual plug heads.

Then, in 1995 or so...the oil pump became a major intrusion on the side of the block...and that did away with the drive for the distributor as well...so you could use up to a 94 block with a distributor if you wanted to...everything should be there, but check to make sure...don't assume anything...:)
