can anyone help with a blowing #25 fuse...its a yellow / white wire to inst clst then to the GEM.

I moved your thread to the electrical section. Feel free to go post an introduction.

1996 Ranger, cab fuse panel #25, 7.5amp, has 12volts full time, not a key on fuse

It powers instrument cluster, Pin 7
And GEM at 2 places, pin 5 and pin 11

Yellow/white stripe wire at all 3 locations

GEM(generic electronic module) is located behind the Radio

You can unplug cluster and GEM, then test fuse location with ohm meter to see if its still shorted to ground, so one of the 3 wires is shorted, not a problem with cluster or GEM

If no short then plug in the cluster, if short shows up then replace cluster
If no short then plug in GEM, if it shorts then replace GEM

i thank you for your response, so i i did first find and unpluged the gem did not have a tester at the time so i put in another fuse it poped, then removed the inst cluster inserted a fuse this time it did not blow . i followed the yellow with white stripe wire to 2 plugs on instrument pannel and to gem.

all the 194 bulbs was blown and circut board looked dirty but i did not see burnt spots.. and is it possible to restore a instrument panel

Maybe, fuse 25 just powers the speedometer circuit from what the below diagram shows
Pin 7 on C216 goes to "speedometer"

So could be speedometer electric motor or odometer electric motor has shorted out
You would need ohm meter to test each motor, they can be removed to test or replace

Good look here at cluster disassembly: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech/odometer-worm-gear-replacement/

And give a good look at your worm gear, common failure on Fords

You can use a 1996-2003 Ranger cluster as replacement for parts or the whole thing
They are plug and play with or without Tachometer
There were two clusters used, with tach and without tach, wiring was there on all Rangers for either type

ok so i put a good fuse in and plugged in 1 connector at a time the center connector poped the fuse and it was the yellow and white wire which goes into the speedometer circuit board . according to the wiring diagram that powers the fuel control module. i could see where it got hot on the board question in how to repair it... and thank you for responding

pin 12 /c215 is the one that blows the fuse.
it looks like it goes to the fuel pump module and comes out the other side to a bk/wy wire. if im understanding it correctly. c 215 is the center connector right

and yes the odometer was like powder

Not following???
White/yellow wire is fuse 25, only powers speedometer, C216 pin 7

Slosh module is powered by C216 pin 1, fuse 11 key on power

C215 pin 12 is not power, the yellow/white wire has a variable resistor in the gas tank(sending unit with float)
If yellow/white wire, or its circuit, was shorted, gas gauge would show empty all the time but wouldn't blow a fuse

You can tell connector numbers by the number of "pins" each has, 16, 12, or 10 pins, not wires, available pins

thank you good info im a good mechanic but when it comes to electrical its a whole new world.. but i am going to learn it for sure.

well i do understand now what you said and now to find where to send the speedometer for repair .. and thanks again for the help.
going to post some pictures pretty soon.
