I've searched around but haven't been able to find the info I'm looking for, so here i am to ask.

I'm doing a thorough cleaning and inspection of the whole top end of my engine. If you have read my other threads, I haven't been able to get my 87 2.0l to start or run.

Anyway, I got the intake off as well as the egr valve. The egr port on the intake as well the egr itself were COMPLETELY clogged! The ports were completely sealed over with carbon deposits. And the deposits went in at least 1/4" deep. I've got the port cleaned on the intake and I'm working on the egr valve itself.

My question is, can egr valves be cleaned? Or do they just need to be replaced? Again, I think mines is in particularly bad shape.

Thanks,
Joe

The tube I'd clean, the EGR valve itself, I'd most likely replace.
