EGR tube has holes..do i need to even have it connected?

I got a 94' b4000. My EGR gas tube is full of holes and makes a bad exhaust leak sound when I drive. A new tube is 140 at napa will buy eventually but about to embark on at 1000 mile drive. Does the tube having holes effect the performance? Also, can I take if off the manifold and plug the port? If so, what will that do to performance, mpg..?

You will get a CEL and probably notice a small drop in MPG on a long highway trip versus your usual highway mileage, but an exhaust leak like that is a safety issue and will probably hurt performance/economy more than the loss of the EGR system. If I were in that situation I would cut the tube, fold the exhaust manifold side over and crimp it off for your trip.

Yes, the EGR system helps the engine, go figure, and it's good for the air.

Yes cap it off and then hit the truck recyclers when you get back, used tube is fine

Thanks for the replies. Ive searched all over town for one and no luck. But I do not have many options here. Do you guys know what years are compatible for the 4.0? I've seen a few that don't match..97', 96'

No wonder you can't find one in the JY I just looked where you are located. You are probably in the same boat I am... Not many Rangers in the JY and the ones that are thee have been picked over better than turkey vultures on a rabbit carcass.

i would love to help you get one since my junk yard probly has this truck or a related frame truck and i could pull it during my pick that im going to do within the next week i just dont want to pick it and be stuck with it.
for reference guys this is the same as 94ish ranger with the 4.0?
i dont think the 3.0 is the same as the 4.0

Panama: Yeah I think the 4.0 is different. But the link for the ranger 4.0 looks pretty good! Funny thing is they say my 94' b4000 isn't compatible but a 94' ranger is..? LIl-pony if you found one I assure you that you wouldn't be stuck with it, I'd definitely get it from ya as long as it is cheaper than the ebay new one.

Edit: Sorry, that is the 1994 Ford Ranger 4.0L one. Not sure if it's the same as the B4000 Mazda one.
