hey guys. so here is what i have, a 99 ranger xlt with an 87 5.0/AOD swap in it. the previous owner had wiring issues with it and didnt want to deal with it so i picked it up for a steal. the issues im having are, it wont start when its cold, when its running the idle is rich and rough, the EGR is blocked off and the o2 sensors arent even connected because the exhaust is aftermarket. My question is, is there a aftermarket wiring harness available to where i can basically take all existing wiring out and replace it? the existing wiring is a MESS with a lot of connections cut off and i would rather start completely over. any help would be awesome. thanks guys

without custom programming/chip it wants the 02 sensors.

where are you located?

there are many options for wiring if you have the coin...painless...ron morris etc are big places....ford fuel injection .com is one i would prefer if i did not build my own anyway.....they build harnesses for some of the companies...

Yea, I am thinking the same as above, without a change in program, you will need all sensors attached and working correctly in order for the computer to regulate the correct amount of fuel to the injectors.

Just to add my 2 cents my buddy had a ranger 5.0 that he didnt connect the 02 sensors and the egr mofo ran very good and didnt run rich or lean at all it was an automatic..if it was me i would make sure that my injectors match my maf (example 19lb injectors then you want you maf to be calibrated for 19lb injectors) also you could just have a bad maf sensor or map sensor. I have and automatic 5.0 ranger that am putting together now i will tell you dis i dont have my 02 sensor connect yet because i dont have my pipe work finished but i did disconnect egr and the mofo didnt skip a beat..

Ted's advice;

Start reading some diagrams, as if you are doing the swap yourself.
Have some O2 bungs welded into your exhaust.
Pull the engine harness, get yourself a volt meter and some EVTM pages for the year of Mustang, free at sbftech.com, veryuseful.com, oldfuelinjection.com, got a copy of the Harwood Ranger swap manual($25), and figure out what you have.
Total cash for all of that is well under $100, plus your time.

Thanks guys. I'm located in arizona so I'm not worried about emissions and such. I'm making this truck into a prerunner. If possible, I want to do away with everything but the efi and transmission being controlled by the computer. So my question is, should I just get an injector harness and start there? Thanks guys this has been helping.
