So as I get the parts and facts together to eventually TC my ranger, I keep running into the same problem. How do I go about the ecu. And if I need to get it re-programmed does anyone know of a shop in the central Virginia area that can do it. I am by no means a computer guy, so I need to know all the basics too.
Thanks for any advice you may have
Phil

what's the info on your ranger? if it's older, simply bolt up the computer that was previously on the engine (from the thunderbird or whatever, since you most likely need it for at least the sensors and forged pistons) and add the wires for the added sensors (vane air flow meter and boost regulator mostly)

Info about your truck currently and the setup you are trying to use will help us to help you.

sorry i forgot to post the info on the truck. it is a 96 ranger with a 2.3 and a five speed manual (if it matters). i do not have the TC block, i was hoping i could build my current block. however, i do have a garret t3/t4 turbo (i believe, it came off a 86 tunderbird with a manual), exhaust manifold and a was able to get the vain air flow meter as well, but i do not have the block or the computer off of the thunderbird.

With yours being a 96 and OBD2 I would say to just build the current motor and turbo it and then have the computer flashed with a good tune for it. If you don't have the knowledge to tune it yourself then I would pay to have a good sport place do a dyno tuning session and write you a tune for it and then flash it onto the ECU. If you are up in new england i can recommend a couple good places to get that done.

thanks for the advice. it will still be awhile before i can rebuild the truck, but i am trying to get all the facts together now. i'll do some research and see if i can find tuning shop.
thanks
Phil
