Hi everyone, I found this device on eBay that says it will delete existing PATS system on '07-'11 Rangers. There are also devices on eBay for deleting '98-'03 Ranger PATS systems.

I had an '07 Ranger a number of years ago and lost it due to the PATS system. I think this system kills more Rangers than anything, and it will only get worse going forward as parts get obsolete, hard to find and Dealers don't want to mess with it any more.

My question is this: does it work? Can the deleted PATS still affect the vehicle? Opinions on doing this delete, please? I'd like to get another Ranger but still carry the trauma the last PATS caused me. Thanks!

Actually, it is not a part, but a service. Send them your ECU and they will delete PATS for any system except Cluster PATS, I think.

The PATS system works well, but in certain scenarios you might want to delete it. And finally, if you are swapping a later model engine into an older vehicle that does not have PATS, then you will need to shut off PATS or your engine won't start.

That's not a device, it's a service. You send in your computer, they delete/remove/disable PATS, then send it back.

I question it's success on later models because PATS is much more integrated into various modules.

Can it work? Yes, at least on the older less integrated models.

I've never heard of PATS killing a vehicle. It will disable, but that's because you do t have the correctly coded key. The fix for that is getting and programming the right, not deleting the system.

I could argue that it is actually cheaper to fix it the right way.

well it's not a device, it is a service... you mail your PCM in, he reprograms it, and mails it back.... since it is a computer and computers can be reprogrammed I see nothing wrong with it as a service.
Now that said, some computers have a 2nd backup memory and if a person does something so innocent as jump starting it when dead (honda civic I am looking squarly at you) then it blows out the first memory (programming) and goes back to 2nd backup programming (in the honda case it was blank slate meaning no keys recognized at all - tow to dealership and $1,000 bill to put the keys back in).

Does ford have 2 copies of the programming and is he doing both, don't know the answer to either of those questions.
will this work for most, all, even half of them - again don't know. He says explicitly to email him the 4 digit "catch code" so he can verify before you even buy the auction/service.

You also aren't dealing with just one flavor of PATS, PATS comes in A/B/C/D/E/F/G - some was a separate module, some was in the instrument cluster, some was in the PCM - so obviously he can only reprogram PCM's with his listing and will thus only work for that flavor of PATS.

about the only way I have heard of PATS "killing" a vehicle is if you try to add new keys to a car with forscan and cable... and decide to "delete all keys" before you get any new successfully in, and then can not get any keys added... in that case it is like my honda example - tow it to the dealer and pay through the nose.

This is what I had removed from my Ranger last year. 2001 xlt 2.5 l. I purchased the truck new in 2001 so I'm assuming it's a factory pats module. No issues starting after removal,(same ignition key as always). It was a drain on the battery so I had it removed.

That's aftermarket. It may have been dealer-installed prior to sale.

There should be a label on it with an FCC ID number. You can go on the FCC website (or at least you used to be able to) and run an "FCC ID Lookup"; that will tell you who made it, and in most cases there will be an owner's manual on file, that you can download.

That is not factory Ford wiring.

This is all good information. Thanks! Good to have it all in the archives. This guy on eBay has a bunch of ads for this service. He covers all the PATS in the different model years. He seems to want communication, so asking about the secondary memory and problems like jump starting, etc is a really good idea. I like the hardware removed reply to this post.

You have an Audiovox unit; your owner's manual is there and can be downloaded.

Otherwise, I don't know that much on the PATS side, as all of mine are older trucks without it.

I too would vote 100% that is not Ford wiring. I have never seen a butt splice in factory wiring from Ford. Remote relay hidden away, sure... that style toggle switch nope. And everything ford made has the oval on it... even if it is just a sticker or silk screened onto the motherboard. Bet you there's no Ford oval anywhere on that.
