Dweano's V8 Project Attempt

Just whatever works eh? You want the transmission pretty much pointed straight back right? Not skewed or anything? As long as everything is lined up you are good to go?

Good to see you finally got her in there. If I forgot to mention that the upper intake needs to come off for motor & trans install, thats my bad. How close is the steering to the exhaust? You can move the engine over to the exhaust minus 1/2" for clearance, but it looks like your passenger exhaust will need more than that to clear. My flange sits on top the frame, like yours, but there's enough room for the exhaust pipe to clear the frame and trans. You could notch the frame half way without sacrificing strength, could also plate the side for extra strength. Also, the belt routing is wrong, from the water pump it should go to the power steering pump (for more wrap) then to the idler then the alternator...
If I had to do mine again (and I will as I've decided to go with a teksid powerplant), I'd move the trans mount over to the passenger side one inch more for more tcase clearance. The exhaust has plenty of room to spare. It doesnt have to be prefectly lined up with the frame or axle, the ujoints will take up the miss alignment...

Yeah I should have taken the upper intake off before I even tried to put it in. I don't know what I didn't...I am going to put on an intake spacer anyways so it wouldn't have been more work. Geez. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess hahaha. My steering has almost 2 or 3 inches to the exhaust. I think I will move it over at least one inch. Maybe an inch and a half. New plates I think. I have access to a plasma cutter and a drill press so it won't be too hard.

Belt routing is wrong? Well I guess that is good I posted a pic! Haha

Eventually I wanna put in a 4406 t-case in here and I believe they say the tranny should be shifted an inch to the passenger side as well for that. So maybe I will make a little bracket thing that goes in between my tranny and cross member that allows for side to side movement. 2 inches up right? I'll use some 2 inch tubing or something.

I think I am going to try to avoid notching my frame. I get too carried away with notching I think. (see rad support pic hahah). The worst is I have a tranny filter right on the passenger side so trying to get the exhaust to clear that stuff will add a whole new dimension of fun. AH well.

You should only need to fab one plate, and just redrill the driver plate. In my personal opinion, I'd take the 1356 over the 4406 any day...

Ah yes...that would make sense haha. 4406 is easier to swap tho ain't it? The one driveshaft can be swapped...leaving only one to be custom fabbed right?

1356 can use the stock ranger shifter motor to change it right? But then again a manual 4406 is more reliable than electric stuff....hmmm...I am mostly concerned about driveshafts, getting new ones made up is costly

Custom shafts will be need made anyways. If you got a mig, you can shorten your own shafts, then just have a driveline shop balance them. Manual shift 1356's are common, and yes, the ranger shift motor bolts right on...

I think word on the street is with a 4406 you can use a 97-03 F150 rear driveshaft with a 120 WB. And possibly an expedition rear could also work? I don't know if I would trust myself to make straight enough cuts to frankenstein up a front driveshaft, but I may do it...

The x cab ranger wb is 126. The 4406 adds quite a bit to the drivetrain, 6-8" iirc. The f150 shaft might work. Idk about the expedition...

SVT

I think with 6 inches of lift and some wiggle room the F150 shaft would work. Did anything come with a TTB D35 and have a 4406? Maybe I could find a front driveshaft too!

Nope, the 4406 started in 97, the end of the ttb era...

SVT

Actually, if you get a front shaft from the same donor as the tcase, chances are that it will fit...

SVT

Yeah? Donors for a 4406 are basically 97-03 F150's...they had something like...8.8 IFS in the front didn't they? You think that would bolt up to a TTB D35?

Might need a conversion joint, but there are people that have done the swap and used that shaft...

SVT

Really??!! Well that is awesome. Learn something new everyday on this forum! I could a have bolt in 4406 swap then
