Perhaps it's just my area but has anybody else noticed that every snow driving segment on the news this past week or so has brake (as in using your brakes) spelled "break"

I haven't seen that, but I try to not watch the news because it makes me depressed.

i love how the news has to remind stupid people how to drive in the stuff. doesnt take a genious

I live where it Normally snows a fair amount Every Single Year.

But for the Most part the summer months are Just enough for pretty much everyone to forget how to drive in snow for the first week of snow.

What news?

My TV has never been connected to cable, satellite, or rabbit ears. It has only been connected to a VCR, DVD, Xbox, both of my computers and my stereo. After taking Journalism classes I hate most "news" media outlets. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Journalism, but the mass media seems to ignore most of what you learn there anymore.

That's not to say I'm ignorant, just that I don't flip on the tube to watch the 6pm news on a regular basis.

I'm not connected either. The 5 top stories that I allow on my Yahoo page alternate between New Unemployment Benefits Suprisingly Low to New Unemployment Cases Suprisingly High. Everyday they like to alternate between sky is falling to sky is rising. That's an obvious manipulation of statistics to keep from being a liar and giving us something we'll click on so they get paid for the advertisement slot.

It's only rock-n-roll, baby.

But as to driving, people here have done suprisingly well this year. Normally, we get a snow, it melts into water and runs out into the streets during the day. At night it freezes and everyone crashes in the morning. This year the snow has stuck a little bit and there's still sand on it and we're doing okay. I'm proud of my community. I drove my brother to the emergency room during a recent snow storm at midnight and during the hour we were there not a single case came in. Getting in and out in an hour is amazing.

For alaska... we have actually had worse drivers this year... you know how i know? because my mom who drives literally everywhere and goes like half the speed limit went in the ditch... my brother... in the ditch (but thats cause he sucks at ebrake rips.. maybe I shouldn't have showed him that...)

Other then that I have seen alot more cars in the ditches mostly newer vehicles though... Hmmm...?

My pet peeve is that between 20 years of mild winters (that ended a few years ago) and pretty much universal use of front-wheel drive cars, people have 1) forgotten how to drive in snow and 2) forgotten about snow tires. Granted, it's only been the last few years that I could afford an extra set of tires for our two cars but even on a front-wheel drive they make all the difference in the world.

The other night I was heading to my aunt and uncle's house in the Sport Trac with the snowblower in back (they're old and have a big driveway), going down the hill in my town is see the bottom block littered with cars trying to get up the hill. In particular I notice one with blue headlights. I get closer and it's a ricer with stickers, low-pros, and a body kit. Go home dumbass, you aren't going anywhere in that thing. I might have towed a few cars up the hill but in my experience most late-model cars don't really have any place to hook a tow strap to.

I think the OP was refering more to the lack of English skills by the news media than the driving skills of people. Yes, people really don't know how to drive in the bad stuff and yes, the English language takes a beating even with a spell checker.
Dave - use your brakes, give others a break.

We don't get snow at all here. Theres a possibility we will today, however its 1-2 inches. Thats the first 1-2 in 10 years. We do get ice on bridges, and other stuff. Gets into the 20s, just no precipitation. We get alot of rain when its warmer, and floods alot. I bought the truck because of it. 3 foot of water in some parts that I have to run through, and I was driving a mustang 2" off the ground.

The news has to display a once in a while lack of English skills. Its politically correct for the ones who cant read. AD-now is the time for your glorious PC quote.

The only thing that I have noticed in the news is more talk about the weather. A little snow storm and they blow it out of proportion. Some freezing rain, some snow on top, add the cold, and its a state of crisis.

Haha... I love alaska... We make fun of people down south. The news networks up here show whats going on down there and they essentially make fun of it. Also when the volcano was going off up here apparently all of my relatives down south were like OMG!!!!!!!!!! Are you ok? Do you need supplies?

Alaska smokes too much dope to be high strung.
