I've been having problems with my knees for 2 decades. This morning I saw my fourth orthopedic surgeon in ten years. I get double knee replacement in February. Finally!... only been waiting for ten years. I'm both excited and scared. Its going to be nice to be able to work without taking a handful of narcotic painkillers.

I hope it goes well for you. My mom got one of hers done and is very happy with the results. She needs to get the other done. But I haven't heard her mention it lately.

Mine will eventually need it. The left has been in various amounts of continuous aches and pains for months now. It used to act up and I could go easy on it and get back to normal. Something has changed. It just isn't recoverable any more. I'm 57 and have had a lifetime career of construction and maintenance. A lot of standing and walking on hard surfaces, lots of climbing stuff and walking on uneven surfaces. Lots of kneeling on everything from dirt and rocks to ceiling joists, to steel or concrete floors, open deck grating, etc. My knees have been abused.

Everything I've heard, better to get everything done at once than one then the other. Doing one then the other can mess of the new knee. Good luck!

He started out by saying he wanted to do one then the other, but I said I'd rather do both. He was ok with that.
And I've been doing construction for forty years. Very similar to @ericbphoto

Don't let them put Mr. Garrison's balls in your knees!

Be glad you are not an Elephant, only mammal with FOUR KNEES
Glass half full :)

Good wishes for the surgery

Don't forget to study for the blood test, they always spring that on you at the last minute

I have an artificial meniscus in my left knee from a rattlesnake bite. They say I'll need a full knee replacement before I'm 50 so let me know if it's worth it. I am terrified of getting wolverine bones.

I am not sure they still use the same technique as what they used on Logan...

I have a growing list of aches and pains the older I get. My left knee seems to be getting a bit worse these days... I feel it load up and pop every time I sit and/or stand. Kinda starting to match my right one. I feel like this exact thing will be in my future.

My mom had one knee done last year. Within 24 hours they had her up and moving on it. Within a week she was getting around fairly well. Not sure how she would have done with a double replacement.

I feel for you floored... hopefully it all goes well. I also hope you can get off of the pain killers... those things have ruined a good portion of society over the past 20 years.

good luck, and speedy recovery...

are they going to do both at the same time or do one, let you heal and then do the other?

AJ

My step father had both knees replaced, one at a time. He was about 5'2" and wanted them to put in longer ones to make him taller but the doctor wouldn't agree. He was so bow legged his legs looked like parentheses( ) when he wore shorts, after the first one he looked like the letter "D" until the second one was done. He was a great guy. I hope your surgery goes as well as his.

I wish you the best in your journey going from a bunch of painkillers to no painkillers.

Thanks for the well wishes.
I dont take pain killers unless I'm working, so that I dont get hooked. The first 2 days without arent especially painful but I usually end up sleeping for a day and a half, and then the narcotics bung like feature let's go for one very big dump.

Whenever I have surgery or something where they give me strong pain killers I don't take them. I just suffer through the pain and save the drugs for having fun. :icon_rofl:

Downers are the worst. Idk how people have fun on downers... I had a week worth of vicodin when I had all 4 wisdom teeth out and it was the worst week of my life... completely useless and drooling on myself.
