195HP with a HP sucking, parisitic drag auto trans even...very nice.

the 4.0 sheet is almost believable if it werent for the 5800 peak (especially considering fords fuel-cut off occures at 5200RPM...unless they increased the rev limiter). the 4.0 falls on its cologn face long before that. however, 143 whp sounds reasonable. i would believe 10 HP or so from a tuner.

dyno sheets are useless without torque figures anyway...and that 3.0 sheet is a joke.

I just ordered a jet chip for my 2.3, should be here in a week or two. When i get it ill use my uncle's shop dyno in missoula and i"ll be sure to put up a post on it. I might not be able to post the sheets themselves but i'll post the whp at different Rev intervals.

Give me BSNOx numbers with those sheets or go home. :) (Jetchip, not rangerbum)

the 4.0 one is what i thought the 3.0 was and i think they got the engines reversed on the dyno sheets

the OHV 4.0 only made 10HP more than the 3.0 in those years, so thats still way far fetched.

on the other hand, if they were talking about a SOHC 4.0, that would make more sense since it was rated for 207 ponies and is a much higher winder than the OHV. but that would make it an '01 rather than an '00.

off the subject a little, are they worth the money? I was thinking of putting one in my 02 ranger 4.0L. good, bad, are they easy to understand/ work with??

rev limiters arent 100% accurate devices. when the computer sees 5200 RPM from the tach signal, it begins to cut fuel alternatly from one bank, then the other to reduce RPM. the rev limiters goal is to slow the motor down without stalling it (can be difficult if theres a high load on the motor). the result is a rev limiter of 5200 RPM "or so", with the tach needle bouncing in an RPM ranger that is actually higher and lower at times.

but the computer strategy is entered at 5200 RPM :icon_cheers:

5800rpm or not, that 4.0 sheet is full of BS. The OHV 4.0 falls flat on its face in the horsepower department at 4200rpm. Note how it shows the "factory" motor increasing in horses past 4200, in reality those numbers start dropping drastically very quickly past that point. Ever notice that the (stock) 4.0 stops pulling shortly after 4krpm? Yeah theres a reason for that.

They did get the 4.0's rwhp close to the actual numbers, but the peak is waaay off.

It should look closer to this:

RPM Horse
4000 125
4200 130
4400 120
4600 115
4800 90
5000 85
5200 75

Yes, i know the numbers arent exact but its much closer than Jet's rectal-claims.

The local college does dyno runs....perhaps I should take mine out there and see what it throws down at the wheels, just for fun. So we know what the 4.0 truly puts out.

agreed, let us know what your 4.0 puts out at the rear tire,

i did see some economy increase actually, so in the long run maybe, my last tank running the piss out of the engine i got 23.9 MPG
