Do I have a "stock" driveshaft? 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 automatic with 4.0l engine. 126 inch wheelbase.

I recently damaged my driveshaft while jacking up the truck. I purchased a used driveshaft via eBay with their "guaranteed fit". The shaft I received was way too long. See the attached photo.

My driveshaft is approximately 62 inches long. There is a Ford sticker on it that says 1L5Z-4602-JM, Spicer Part: 922338-4828.

Do I have a stock driveshaft? Or should I be looking for something different?

Thanks so much, Russ

Your driveshaft has a Ford sticker on it, so I would say it's an original part. But they definitely sent the wrong shaft.

I didn't state my question very well... Let me try again.

Is this the shaft that would came standard on my truck? Or should I be looking for a replacement shaft that doesn't match my model year?

Trying to understand what I should order.

Lots of the junkyards won't send photos in advance.

Thanks!

That is the issue.

2WD has the slip yoke for one. It's also longer because there is no transfer case.

The saga continues

I received another shaft. Now the problem is the yoke at the front is too big.

Mine is 2 1/2 inches between the mounting holes in the front. The one I received is 3 inches between the holes.

Mine is a Spencer F2 82 759

The "new" one is a Spencer F2 789

Does anyone know if the splines are the same? Can I simply take off the boots and swap yokes?

If it was mine I would cut the metal boot straps and see if they interchange.
Otherwise, there are conversion u-joints. I'm not familiar with the sizes but with careful measurements you should be able to get a knowledgeable parts person to find what you need.

I can still return it if I don't modify it. So I'm hoping someone might know.

What is a conversion U-joint?

Conversion joint will allow you to go from the wider yoke on the new shaft to the old narrower yoke that bolts to the trans.

yeah....your finding out the hard way about ford powertrains and drive lines........1310 vs 1330 now.....bummer.

there is also a 1330 size flange pattern with a 1310 joint that will go on that particular shaft...and one that has both hole sizes offset....

does it bolt to the axle side? if it bolts to the axle side.... i would be tempted to put a 3 in pattern flange on the t case and run the bigger shaft.

otherwise get another 1310 shaft. you have your original part number and it is a valid number. obviously they are not matching it...and sending what they have...and it is getting expensive.

from there with all of the hassel it is the reason i just build my own shafts.... that and my vehicles dont really use oem shafts anyway.

Wow! Thanks for this!!!

I just measured the U-joint's. They are both 1 inch diameter. Need to pull them to get actual lengths. What do you think about the idea of running a combination U-joint? 3.5 by 4, or whatever the actual measurements are?

On the topic of expensive...

eBay currently has a policy of "guaranteed fit". If it doesn't fit, you can ship it back at their expense. The first one went back at no cost 'to me'. I could send this one back too at no cost 'to me'. But if I can make it work with a simple combination U-joint I'd be happy to keep it. It's the correct length.

I'll check the rear bolt pattern right now and be sure it fits the rear axle.

you will need a 1310 1330 cross joint...i run those on some of my shafts...
