I was reading this thinking back to how I learned to work on stuff....and still do...My truck is my only means of transportation, though working nights, I can get another vehicle to get to work.
Personally I like having the whole deadline/stress to get things done... It's just like being at work for me.
One day you just decide to roll up your sleeves and dig in.
As to learning stick...I got my first truck, an '86 Isuzu P'up, and taught myself... It wasn't long after that that I was playing with old junk farm trucks and such.
BTW...I know you have mentioned getting rid of the ranger before... You aren't horribly far from me... I may be interested in seeing it.
