So I just learned today that some early Rangers were available with a Mazda diesel. This is very cool to me because I've had this goofy idea kicking around in my head for a few years now.

I'm thinking it would be cool to swap a diesel into a 2nd gen Ranger and sort of make a half-scale semi truck out of it. A diesel engine already set up to be in that engine bay would be AWESOME!

Now, I realize that the diesel engine in question was probably never offered from the factory with a turbo on it. Just wondering if anyone has done such a thing. Would that engine survive with a turbo? Would it just be more worth while to find something else?

Just kinda thinking out loud.

Thanks.

I think there was a turbo Mitsubishi motor that was available from the factory for the Ranger. 1985 maybe? :icon_confused:

IIRC many, if not all, of them were 4 cylinder Turbo Diesels.

There was a turbo version and a non-turbo version. Apparently neither had much power.
