These old diesel Rangers run forever, only 270K on mine so it will be awhile before i hit 500K.

i see one here where i live almost everyday (84 standard cab,longbed, 5spd, 2.3 turbo diesel).....rusted out fenders and rockers but strong running @ 300k and still kicking

the guy knows i'm a ranger nut and always asks when i'm gonna buy it....

my new toy!!!

First time on! Just became a member ten mins ago. I just bought a 86 turbo diesel!!! I LOVE IT! It is a standard cab, long bed, 5 speed. Bed has one dent, but no rust nowhere. It has 165k on it with a rebuilt pump (one year old) and a rebuilt starter. I bought it from a professor at a local college; who bought it from the original owner (who is also a mechanic professor at the same school.) He said that the truck had been on campass its hole life. Untill now. It gets 42mpg now. I am puting a 2 1/2 exhaust on tomorrow from the turbo back; with a hi-flow turbo muffler. I am also putting a K & N style filter with hi-flow metal intake tube on. I just put fully synthitic oil in with a fresh fram oil filter. I am hoping that with a lil tweeking; i can get around 50mpg hwy. My wife hates it because she says that it sounds like it is about to break down (the diesel, and it shakes). I am VERY proud of it though! Whos with me on this one???

I am wanting to buy a parts truck (86-87, 2.3L Turbo Diesel, 5 speed?) for spare parts. Just to have it BEFORE I need it. Congrats on the new purchase, the 2.3L turbo diesels were produced from '85-'87 so you have a three year window when searching for a parts truck (assuming you're only interested in the engine parts) if it's anything like the '83-'84 2.2L diesels most of your engine related parts are going to be difficult to find but they are out there if you take the time to research on the internet, these '83-'87 diesel Rangers don't allow you the luxury of a quick ten minute trip down to Napa for most of your engine parts.

I thought it was the Toyo Koygo, but am not sure.

I've only seen them with 4-speeds but the link Triumph provided certainly shows a Mazda 5-speed for the '83-'84 diesel Ranger, wish mine had the 5-speed, it could certainly use it.
