I found an 83 ranger on craigslist. The dude wants 650 for it.
It's a 4 cyl with 4 wheel drive and a 4 speed manual transmission. Now assuming everything is in working order, how good is that combo? I have been looking for a 4cyl 4x4 ranger for a while now. Only problem is, I wish it was an extended cab and it looks like it's been sitting for a while now.

Only way to tell is go check it out...an 83 4X4 is probably very well used, and so is the 4 banger motor...but could be worth it.

4 cylinder and 4x4 pretty rare combination in the Ranger I believe. I've only seen 1, and it was listed on craigslist late last year and pretty bad shape body wise.

I just saw one listed for sale in Barrie...but it's a diesel...4x4 2.3...

Personally, I'd check it out...may need some work but the parts are there...unless it needs a transmission or transfer case...those might be a bit harder to come by for that year.

From what I could find the transfer case is still either the 1350 or 1354. Transmission I haven't found an answer to yet. If it needs either, I would imagine like others have mentioned could be hard to find I would think the transmission and transfer case would be slightly different on the 4 cylinder 4x4 models.

I doubt it has a different t-case, more than likely a 1350. The 1354 didn't come out until the 4.0 came out around '90.

and you wont' find a 4x4 4 cylinder extended cab ranger, they didn't make them... if you find one, someone made it...

awesome, thanks guys. if its still up after i sell one of my cars i think i may go check it out.

hehe if any of you are interested, im selling a 71 comet or a 2002 acura tl.

as far as the above conversation, I've seen many 4cylinder 4x4 rangers, most are either 1983 to 1986s, or 1994 to 1997's, most manual transmission's, other then one 87 auto, I even have a good used 4cylinder 4wd transmission that's going to go up for sale soon,

more to the point of that 1987 super cab, it looks pretty decent, although you might want to check out the suspension, looks like the rear springs are either sagged or they didn't lift the back much, the front camber alingnment looks off by a good bit, so check the tire wear and make sure nothing is bent/broke in the front suspension

I'd like to hear more about that Comet you would sell.
