ok, i just got a 90 ranger with 2.3 and a 5 speed. i lost my job almost a month ago so i have no money to work on it right now but.......
it is only gettin about 15-16mpg!!!!! and that is the best i have gotten...
i can't figure it out. can't seem to notice much gas smell..
no leaks..
new plugs....
wires are decent.....
not much exhaust left to interfere..(unless the converter is partially clogged)

but i can't afford to drive it the way it is.
please someone help me...
my 97 i had got 27 and i woiuld be tickeled to death if i can get lower 20's out of this one...
i will take all the help i can get
it only has 100k miles on it too and it runs great..too good to be having this trouble.

There was a post not too long ago about this very thing...and the user found that the wires going to the plugs were all crossed and touching each other, causing a serious degradation of spark...

They took plastic spacers and separated all the wires so that they do not touch, and IIRC, their gas mileage improved...as well as eliminating something else...

The post was in this forum, and it should still be near the top...I'll try to find the link for it...or tell you the name of the topic...

EDIT: OK, found it on page two...titled "Running Rough, Gas Mileage got you down?"...

It might help, even if you're not experiencing the rough running...

Oh, and you might try dumping some weight from your truck if you can...like empty the bed of any unnecessary tools, toss your jump seats if you rarely use them...and put on the 14" tires if you happen to have a set of rims...

Hope this helps...
