My laptop got to running slow so i did a system restore on it, the computer "finished" the restore and restarted itself. When i logged in it popped up a message that an unknown error occured and the system restore couldnt be completed, then it restarted itself. it nnow comes up with a message that gives you options on how to start the computer; Safe mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Something else, and start normal. No matter what option you pick once you log in it shows the message that the system restore failed and then a blue screen pops up that says a whole bunch of crap (all i could get was storing info to disk for crash protection, or something like that) but disappears long before you can even try to read it. I got to where i could do something on it a couple of time under the safe mode option, what can i do to fix this. I need this computer for school anf cant afford a new one or to send it out.

I would try to reinstall windows over top of your old copy without a reformat to try and salvage your data. I hope you kept the disc that came with it. Next time don't mess with that sort of thing unless you're sure of what you're doing.

i've got the disk the problem is finding it, since everything is packed and ready to move into a dorm, and i cant even get into my stuff until i get ready to move. I've done it a million times before with no problems, this is the first time i've ever had any issues with it.

sounds like your installation is hosed, if you have acess to a desktop and a laptop ide adaptor, you should copy your data off the drive and do a clean format install on it.

Find the oem disc and run the repair.

the only other chance would be to go back to an earlier restore point and hope like hell that works. otherwise oem cd is it. lee

I've never had any success with trying to repair a Windows OS...best to format and reinstall...better is to keep a second OS on a separate partition in case it happens again...even better is to have two computers and a naked secretary...

i tired to get a naked secretary, then i realized i work at a family business and am realted to everybody that works there, of course it is arkansas.

i'll try to restore it to a later date if not it will probably have to sit until i get around to moving out so i can get into my stuff

Hello

I use Maxtor backup but its too late to use. After you get it up and going again use a back up program to get you back to where you are happy.
