Dash Swap into 87 Ford Ranger

So my question is when I swap the gen 2 dash into the 87' Ranger. Is it necessary to swap the steering column? Or can I just splice wires for the switch in the column into the 92 dash harness? Or are there any other complications I'm unaware of?
