Are these seals replacable without taking the whole nine yards out? Seeing that the axles are out for new ball joints. and.. and and :headbang:

Seal is # 40710 with a clip?

thanks gang :)

Gotta remove the diff unless the c clip emliminator mod has been done.

You are about halfway there though IMO if you have the spindles out.

like previously said you gotta pull the pumpkin to pull the passenger side shaft out. if your going to go thru that much trouble i would highly suggest doing the c clip elminator, so you never have to pull it out again for stupid shit.

the driver side seal is different from the passenger side. i used skf 14247 for the passenger side, and timken 710043 for the driver side.

Well I did not see that either side was leaking.. and isn't the gear oil level below that point?

To the bottom of the fill plug hole.

Mine was moist around one shaft so I went a head and did it while the axle was on the floor.

if the driver side ever leaks youll have to pull the pumpkin to change it. and if the passenger inner u joint ever goes bad and you dont have a c clip eliminator be pulling the pumpkin. be careful when pounding these seals in. i found that the passenger side seal is especially soft. i dented mine up a bit with a rubber mallet and a socket.

Thanks everyone for the input I found it YouTube and it really doesn't look that involved! but considering I need to get the truck back together and how little 4 wheel driving I will be doing it can wait.

my front seals were still good at 320k miles, the passenger one only leaked after i put a big dent in it installing the axle shaft, the driver is still going good tho.

since your not going to replace them id advise spraying some wd40 or something like that on them to make sure they dont dry up and crack.

swynx thanks! Oh... this truck is kicking my butt, but I'm learning fast. I guess there are reasons to hate the D35 TTB and this is my first real 4wd truck but so far, I'm happy, and it's no longer a mystery to me. auto hubs, locking hubs, electric shift, joints a ball, bearing & seals n wheels oh my!

my dana 35 front was the first suspension/ axle assembly i had ever touched. at first there kind of a pita and they piss you off if they have never been rebuilt before. but after the first time there really simple to do, and compared to other axles these are a cake walk.

i shared this awhile back, also when i shared it it was on my phone, but it should work on your computer. it helped me quite a bit.

Thanks Swynx. 4x4 is rarely used, so I try to keep ahead of the weep by checking it. It came in handy when I lost the rear U-joint 150 miles from home. The link is saved in case I decide to fix it :D

no problem bud! since you rarely use the 4x4 id recomend throwing it in 4x4 every month or so just to get things lubed up. also that way you will know if a problem is about to occur, so you can fix it before you wish you had fixed it.
