D44 TTB redrill to 5 x 4.5 lug pattern?

I'm prepping a D44 TTB to go under a Ranger. I've already got wheels in the Ranger pattern 5 on 4.5, so I want to know if I can redrill the rotors on the D44 TTB for that lug pattern.
In a bunch of searching I've found one thread on FSB that says sure it'll work, and one thread on Dezert Ranger saying no way.
The axle I'm prepping doesn't have hubs or rotors yet or I'd just measure.

Can the D44 TTB hub and rotor be drilled to 5 x 4.5 lug pattern? Anybody actually done it, or actually seen that it can't be done?

:icon_confused:

Never heard of anyone doing it. Can you just get adapters to change it?

Yeah there are adapters available, but I don't like using adapters on the front - they increase the scrub radius and increase the load on the steering. I will if I have to but it'd be much cleaner if I can just put them holes where I wants em...

Anybody tried it?

Take the rotors & hubs to a machine shop, they should be able to do it for you. I had a friend that had a D60 with a 5 lug pattern

Yeah I know >how< to do it, what I'm asking is if it >can be done<, if there's room for the pattern on the hub/rotor.

Somebody maybe got a D44 TTB hub or rotor handy, could send a pic or measure it?

If it is known how to do it, then more or less you probably can.

not really feasible due to the size of the hub assembly on the 44.

you can run some reg 44 c's to facilitate lift as well and use a fixed set dodge knuckles and hubs that were 5x4.5 which are the shitiest ideas ever. but easily possible. at that point i would use reg d44 stuff c's out and highsteer for best overall setup around.

or run abs ttb 44 and downgrade your situation using d35 spindles with the upgrade jeep lockouts and stubs with some custom brake backets.

that goes both ways too....you can upgarade a d35 with 44 stuff. with custom wilwwod type stuff its endless.

" If it is known how to do it, then more or less you probably can." - Yeah, thanks so much for the enlightenment, Socrates.

"not really feasible due to the size of the hub assembly on the 44." Thanks Bobbywalter, that's an actual useful factual answer - It ain't the answer I was hoping for but it's what I figured would be the case. Looks like I'll be ponying up for yet another set of wheels in 5 x 5.5...

it sux finding decent used 5x5.5 wheels around here now....15's are just out of favor as well.

i have two sets now for the b2.

You could always look into trading your current wheels for some 5x5.5 ones.

Your simplest option would be an adapter, as it sounds like you will have to run one either up front or in the rear to keep all 4 tires the same pattern (Nobody wants to require two different spares lol)

If a set of 5x4.5 wheels will fit with an adapter why wouldn't they fit on a 5x4.5 drilled hub?

"it sux finding decent used 5x5.5 wheels around here now....15's are just out of favor as well." - Yeah here too, I missed a nice seat of "turbine" style on Craigslist a few weeks ago, and there's nada-zip-zero 5-on-5.5 17" wheels in the used market that I can find. (I want to run 33" tires.) I'm dubious of 16" wheels, don't know if tires for them are gonna be harder to find than 15" will be.

I think what I'm gonna run into is that the diameter of the hub body that projects out from the rotor is going to be too fat to allow an adaptor to be used (too big around to leave meat for the 4.5" lug circle); either that or hub will be fatter than the center hole in all the 5x4.5 wheels that I have.
