Like it says, has anyone squeezed a fully selectable diff locker (Eaton, OX, ARB) into a D35 SLA, while the front suspension is still stock? What about with a 4" lift?

Stock it is a very tight fit to get a fully rounded diff cover in there, if it is at all possible.

I'm not asking about the lunchbox lockers...just the fully selectable type.

Thanks!

What is a sla? I have an arb I plan to install in my 35 ttb.

short long arm.

a arms vs burly man traction beams....

the housing type of the sla 35 is reg rot iirc...but the way they are setup not friendly to the jeep 35 e locker....

you could use the earlier explorer cad axle and run the aussie or go to the lockout style earlier ranger setup for lockouts.

i would be tempted to go to a fullsize modified long travel sla setup from a f series or toyota or gm with fat fenders so you can fly....

be warned....i seen 5 shafts destroyed in 600 yards before with a locker...

friendly reminder to all, especially new guys.

the front diff in 98+ Rangers is NOT a regular Dana 35, it is smaller.
the ring gear has only 8 bolts on a circle less than 6" centerline.
be sure to get 98+ Ranger or 95-01 Explorer parts.

Yeah, isn't the 98+ Ranger/95-01 Explorer a Dana 30, and then the 02-11 Explorers a Super30?

yes it is....but the setup hampers jeep e locker useage...

it has been done, and is not a reg bolt in part for part.

Actually, OX is the one that had captured my attention the most. Using their "Vehicle Application" page, this is what they say to use:

http://www.ox-usa.com/77-dana-35

Spoke with Chip at OX and he doesn't think it will fit on the stock factory suspension, as it comes with a new diff cover that houses the shift fork.

My second choice would be a Torsen, made just for the D35 SLA:

https://torsen.com/product/ford-dana-35/

Chip at OX stated that they've only had 1 other person ever ask about installing their diff locker into a stock suspension Ranger.

I am very happy with the Torsen I have in the rear of my truck. It can be very nice and smooth around corners, or I can get rough with it and lock it up tight on the turns if I want.

aren't Dana 30s 10 bolt ring gears? the Rangers are only 8.
some sites also say there is a break in the Rangers front diff for 01-05. I haven't any experience there.

Short long arm makes no sense. Is it short? Or long? Just Why?

How about you just call them facotry a-arms as that's what they are? Nothing more, so why try to make them sound cool?

They are not A-arms. They are control arms.

Short/Long Arm does make sense. The upper arm is short, the lower is long, so there is one of each. There are setups out there where the arms are of roughly equal length.

its what Ford used when that style of suspension was put on the Ranger in '98.
it went something like: "now in 1998 for the first time the Ranger has a short and long arm independent front suspension"
plus, the early years passenger side upper control arm was a two piece unit that did not resemble an "A". it would have been more fitting to call it 2 A's, a V, and a combination of I & D
