alright well my d35 is welded an i want to swap it out for an open diff for now, i got a new open carrier but do i have to get the gears re set up if i swap the carriers?

yes, at least recheck the pattern...

any easy way to check that? thats just using the yellow paint stuff to make sure the teeth are making contact in the right spots.

You betcha, just paint some marking compound on it, apply some constant pressure to the ring gear and rotate the differential all the way around to get a pattern.

About 95% of the time just swapping carriers requires no change in gear set up. Just reinstall the carrier bearing shims the way they came out and give it a try.

could also find a complete 3rd member if you got a stock gear ratio and just swap the whole pumpkin over and not even have to set up gears .. just and idea for ease.

alright ill give it a shot, its the only way im going to learn is do it myself, an ya i got 456 gears in it an the spare 3rd member has like 350 gears in it.
