I have located a D28 inner HS (the part that goes into the into the carrier) will this shaft work with my outter pass slip shaft? I need to know before I buy it.

Thanks,
Mike

No....the "D28" used in the 96 is a D28/D35 hybrid. Its a D28 ring and pinion in a D35 housing. It uses inner axle shafts that neck down to D28 size and spline count, BUT uses the bigger u joints and outter shafts from the D35.

the last full year of parts that will fit are '89, though early 1990s produced
through the end of November of 1989 also fit, starting at the beginning of December 1989 in the 1990 model year ford switched to the Dana 35.

the funny thing was the "Hybred" D28/35 didn't appear until 1993.
