cutting down explorer reciever to mount to a ranger

So I have a 94 and a 99 I need to put a hitch on I have an exolorer reciever that I want to cut down and weld to be able to fit the frame rails. Is that safe? I dont have a picture of the hitch but its just 2x2 square stock with the brackets welded on the end. I'd probably take it to someone that knows what he's doing and I don't see the problem but if I can save 50 to 100 bucks om having to buy 2 of them instead of one...and does anyone know what you would really charge for that.

Why wouldn't the explorer fit? I thought the frame rails were the same width?

Anyway, Fabrication is usually pretty expensive compared to Ranger parts. I'd call the nearest shop or two then look on Craigslist. Wouldn't want to have something custom made when you could get it factory cheaper....

Im pretty sure the frame rails are wider than rangers. Or I was just retarded when I mocked it up.

You may be retarded, but you are correct. . The frame is wider in the rear on the Ex.

That's what I figured. So would there be a problem with what im proposing? I am only slightly retarded , mostly when I drink too much.

I don't see it being a problem. If you are taking it somewhere to get it welded you could save yourself some coin by doing the cutting and cleaning yourself, that's the most time consuming part of the job.

Make sure it's a sleeve weld not a butt weld-a butt weld will be weaker on the hitch.
