Cruise control after manual swap?

Hey all,

A while back, the AOD in my '92 XLT 3.0 went out, so I took the opportunity to swap in an M5OD-R1 out of a 1993 3.0 parts truck that I found on craigslist. My truck came from the factory with cruise control, which functioned prior to the swap, and the donor truck did not. I swapped over the transmission, as well as the ECM and some of the wiring that needed to be adapted.

Anyway, the truck drives fine, but the cruise control no longer works, and looking through my Haynes manual I see the cruise control wiring goes through the ECM. I suspect that's at least part of the problem, that the swapped ECM didn't have provisions for cruise control built/programmed in, but the manual doesn't list what the inputs from the ECM are to those wires, and I haven't had any luck looking up ECMs for a manual 3.0 with stock cruise control.

Does anybody have a part number for such an ECM, or failing that, have any idea if it's flashable/programmable into the ECM I have now? Or any other ideas on what the next step might be?

I know the first gen cruise was pretty stand alone, it told the computer the cruise was on but the the PCM didn't talk to the cruise.

Mine works great with a carb.

So maybe if you can't get it worked out go to first gen cc electronics?

Double check your clutch pedal switch and wiring too as that would be part of the swap process that will effect cruise control operation. It is tied into the brakes too. Same for if a second gen has a dump valve for the cruise and you switched pedals/pedal brackets.

Factory manuals have much greater detail on troubleshooting cc systems.

Cruise is not hooked to Engine computer(ECM) but it does SHARE 2 wires with, the Speed Signal(VSS) wires
On pre-1995 Ranger the VSS sensor is next to speedo cable on transmission, I assume that got hooked back up, 2 wire

Same wiring on auto or manual for VSS, so should be hooked up correctly

A manual has a Clutch switch with 3 switches inside, Cruise won't work if this is not hooked up correctly

Cruise has a separate box, the speed control amplifier, that is its "brains"

Two wiring diagrams here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/EDiagrams/files/Diagram_Cruisecontrol_1of2.JPG
