How can you tell the year?

Good catch Rusty. The craigslist ad lists it as a 1984, and the seller said it had a 2.9l. It's probably a 2.8 with a C3. Also probably very under powered.

First thing that tipped me off was the front bumper. I dont recall seeing an 86-88 without the black plastic cover/air dam thing.

Secondly, when i looked at the interior in the original post the steering wheel, warning light setup, and radio were dead giveaways it was not a 2.9 era truck.

Im pretty good at guessing year range within generations of ford pickups pre 96

From the other post it's definitely an early truck. I had forgotten there were more pictures there. Radio is one of the giveaways I saw immediately.

super duty axles and 3.2 transit engine....


actually a 3.7 from a mustang manual application would be perfect. but on an ext cab platform

that was my offer....if you were to buy it, which defacto puts it up as good idea territory..


first thought was 3.2 for cool dieselyness....

then i came to my senses. 3.7 or 3.5 non turbo is ideal.


dually would not be a do thing though.

but ext cab worth effort.
