I have read all the info here on replacing the timing belt on my 1995 ford
ranger xlt with the 2.3 4cyl engine & 5 speed manual trans.

I need to know how you guys torque the crankshaft pulley?

I don't see anyway to hold the flywheel

Than You ALL for the great info I have found here

I have a big chain locker wrench made by mac tools, wrap it around the pulley and hold it.

just tighten it until you can't tighten it anymore, it'll be tight enough...

Since it a manual trans put it in gear, set the parking brake (and, or maybe have someone hold the brakes) and tighten.

I have an impact gun.

Thank You All for these tips on the correct procedure to torque the Crank Pulley bolt to 130 ft. lbs..:dunno:

If you really want to torque it, do like mentioned above, put the parking brake on, transmission in 4th gear and torque the bolt down, that will do the trick nicely.

Remove a spark plug, stuff in several feet of rope, leave a tail hanging out. Rotate the engine until the piston in that cylinder tries to squish the rope. It will fail, and you can tighten the damper to your hearts content. If you do try using the parking brake and with a manual transmission, make sure to put the transmission in 4th gear. That will minimize torque multiplication. OD is not recommended as it is IMO the weak point, and you might break it.

The rope trick works. Done it a few times. Make sure the piston is a BDC on the compression stroke, and you're good to go.
