i was driving my 2004 ford ranger 4.0 sohc and the engine just cut out and died when i was on the throttle. I got it towed home and began trouble shooting the issues i have spark, fuel and replaced the crank shaft sensor and i still can't get it to fire. I did new timing chains and components about 1000 miles ago. Anybody ever have this issue?

Do you have a code reader that you can pull the codes with? Don't worry, sometimes the check engine light doesn't come on, even though it has some stored codes.

Welcome to TRS :)

First thing
CEL(check engine light) should come on with key on, this means computer has powered up
When you turn the key to START and engine starts to turn the CEL should go OFF, this mean Crank sensor is OK and computer is getting a Good Timing signal
If above happens.............

Next test is to pull off the large air tube on the intake
Spray gasoline or Quick Start(ether) into the intake, you can leave the tube off, don't let fan hit it
Try to start engine
If it starts, runs and dies, you have a fuel delivery issue
If it doesn't start then you have no spark(or no compression)
Called the 50/50 test, been used since the 1890's and first gasoline engines

The 4.0l SOHC does have several timing gears that can slip, which causes no or low compression
If 50/50 test has a no start no fire result then test 1 cylinder on each side for compression
170psi is expected
Under 120psi would be no start

If CEL doesn't come on then computer is not powering up so no start
Check fuse 11, 30amp, in Engine bay fuse box

What brand did you use for parts? Just curious.
