My truck has some rust damage all around that the previous owner had tried to fix and coverup, but this crack is pretty bad and makes the truck look like crap. How can i fix this for cheap without getting a new part? Im not too worried about the rust thing right now, but i wqant the truck to look as good as possible. Here is a pic of the crack. Any advice is apreiciated, thanks.

ugh, thats a familiar sight...Same problem here. Damn previous owners man....

You cant do anything about the cracking...its only going to get worse. What you can do, as crappy as it sounds is..........put superglue in the cracks to keep the paint from flaking off. Its what I'm doing for the time being. lol. I'm not proud of it, but it keeps it all together.

Only way to really fix it though is to sand and if needed, replace the rusted areas. My fenders are gone underneath so I'll have to weld in some new metal when I get around to paint my truck.

well is there a way i can make it looka bit better then it does now? less like a gash and more like a crack? lol i just want it to look "alright" so my truck doesnt turn into a "peice of crap" because of people seeing it lol :P

Also, does anybody know how much it would cost to paint it completely if i wanted to? Because then i could get that crack welded and all the stuff and paint it a better colour. I'm guessing it'll be morer than the trucks worth doing it to but i thought i'd ask anyways. lol thanks.

So the metal is cracked? I didn't think that was metal.
I thought that it was like mine where the paint itself was cracking and flaking. The people before me used somekind of wrap and bondo to fix my rust...Once it got hot out, all hell broke loose.

Depending on the overall condition of that metal, you might be able to weld it. If its all wrinkled and nasty though, it might not be work. Well..it'll work, just not look nice.

There may be other ways out there to do it but if it was my truck, I would be replacing the metal. LMC truck sells patch panels that can be welded in for about 30 bucks.

Duplicolor has new voc compliant lacquer paint, primer and clear for around $200.00. I'm gonna use it on my truck.

yes, the metal is cracked. and it goes above where the previous work was done onto the actual paint. I posted a picture so looking at that you would know as much, if not more then me about it lol. I'm thinking im going to have to go to a body shop and see what they will charge for it because the cracks dont like up (sticks out a bit, etc). Hopefully it will be cheap, but it looks like ill have to do some re-painting :/

any ideas?
