I blew out my 7.5 in my 86 Ranger. i decided to put a Explorer 8.8 in to replace it, im getting new perches and shock mounts so thats not an issue my question is: What do i need for a drive shaft??? The truck is a Regular Cab Long bed 4X4 with a BW1350M. I read in the tech library that a 90+ Ranger driveshaft will work, is this true??? what year range can i go and does the tcase matter???
Thanks
Beef

A shaft from a '91-'97 longbed truck should fit right in there with the 8.8 if you have the A4LD trans, or a swapped-in M5OD or FM146.

If you have the FM145 then you'll have to change a few things or have a custom shaft made.

ill have to check to see what trans i have, but do the ex and ranger use the same ujoint? so could i just get the flange off an ex?

I believe the '86 has u-joints that are smaller (1210-series).

If you have a FM145, you'll need to either go with a custom-built shaft, or you can redrill the 8.8" flange with the smaller bolt pattern so you can use your existing driveshaft (I don't recommend doing this with a small-u-joint shaft though).
