First off i apologize if this is in the wrong place still new to the whole forum thing and the 4cyl section made sense to me
My reasoning is basicaly to have more space in the engine bay hopes of slightly better mpg and a larger aftermarket to work with

current specs is 88 ranger 4x4 5spd std cab
k&n filter and a flowmaster with the 180 degree tstat just put in a week ago
which solved my only issues

im looking for advice on going to a 4 banger not repeated badgering on getting a 4.0/5.0

any help/notes/advice/links would me much appreciated ive trolled google, trs, and a fair few other sites looking up the topic with nothing solid or affirming to answer the question

posted while drinking when should be sleeping for work

The bell housing patterns are different - this will probably be a big help:

I've read the motor mounts are hard to find, but I could be wrong on that.

After that, just hook everything up - you will need to use 2.3 harness, computer, emissions equipment, whatever you can salvage from the exhaust. might run into differences with fuel lines. Depends what you end up using
