Condensor?

WTF? Was looking under the hood of Little Green, my 93 XLT with 3.slow V6, and noticed what looks like a condensor hanging off the left hand side of the coil. This is the 93 model with no EGR, distributor and only one coil. Do my eyes deceive?

There is an RFI capcitor/condensor attached to the coil on all EFI vehicles. It is there to catch flyback voltage from the coil firing and keep it from doing damage to the more sensitive electronics on the vehicle. It also helps keep quite a bit of RFI noise out of the radio.

It does function similarly to the ones in the older systems, but it isn't used to extend the spark pulse like in the older systems.
