Code: P1443 Auxilliary Emissions Control

if it was just a sensor problem, would it cause a vaccum leak?

Sorry to revive a very old thread. I actually had the code on my truck for a while and broke down and fixed it. The code was the P1443 which is no change in the flow from the evap canister from Key on Enine off to engine running. I had swapped the sensor out about 6 months ago and the code reset for about 15 minutes but came back on. I went to the dealer and got the purge solenoid and did a suck blow test on it and it would not allow air to pass when in the off position. My original you could blow or suck air through with it in the off position. Well I have always wanted to know why things do not work when they break so I go tto playing with my old one and I discovered that when the original hoses started to break down a piece of rubber was in there and some times it would allow the valve to close and others it would not. After playing with it for a little bit I was able to get that really small piece of rubber out and my origianl is working just as good as the brand new one does. Just thought this may help others because they coudl try this befor elaying out the $80.00 for a solenoid that I most likely did not need to replace now that I look at it.

code 1443 solved!

i did everything, gas tank fill pipe, gas cap, purge solenoid, hoses to the canister... but what finally fixed it was actually a 2 stage so not sure which one. i did the purge flow sensor and the 1.5 inch piece of vacuum line off the 90 at the upper intake. no more c.e.l. and a valid inspection sticker.

What in the world is the Auxilliary Emissions control?

I decided to run to Advanced Auto and have them pull the trouble codes off my truck's computer, this is the only one that came up: P1443 Auxilliary Emissions Control.

The mechanics next door to Advanced Auto said that its some kind of canister thats back close to the fuel cell. I've also been told that this canister may be cracked in some way, and that its possible that its causing my vaccum leak.

Help?
The most common problem that causes the 1443 code and a vacuum leak is a deteriorated hose between the vacuum purge solenoid and the purge sensor, which is located along the driver's side under the hood, on the inner fender. The 1443 code means the computer does not read enough of a change in flow (measured by the thermistor in the flow sensor) when the purge solenoid is activated. This can indicate a bad purge valve, a plugged purge valve, sensor, or hose, or a leak between the sensor and the purge solenoid. This hose is about 5" long on my '96 4.0 liter.
