Hey guys, 1996 2.3 rwd 5 speed truck. I just swapped out the transmission. Clutch, master, slave, throw out and pilot bearing..

Start the truck and it wont go into any forward gear(dosent grind just wont go in gear) and grinds trying to go into reverse. Ive bench bleed, ive gravity bled, ive had some one pump and i work the bleeder, ive vaccume bleed, ive used a syringe and reverse bleed, ive pushed the petal to the floor and rolled my foot to the side letting the pedal snap back. Over the last week ive tried EVERY combination of the above stuff.
Right now im giving up. Tomorrow im pulling thr trsnsmission… again… ive searched everywhere, anyone else have any ideas?

Before I'd pull the transmission, I'd pull the big rubber cover on the driver side bell housing and watch the clutch for movement while somebody pushes the pedal.

If you don't see movement, chances are there is still air in the master.

My first Ranger clutch kicked my ass seven ways to Sunday, until I pulled the driver wheel splash guard, unbolted the master, and bled it by hand while holding it so the reservoir port was the highest thing on it.

disconnect the hose from the throw out bearing. the end should self-seal the hose. then the pedal should be rock hard.
any squish then means there is still air in the line, or most likely the clutch master cylinder.

So last night while messing with it, i was able to get it “driveable” but its super hard going into gear and the clutch pedal feels very spongy, almost no resistance. I dont want to drive it like this. So im going to try and bleed the system…again.

I think that you're on the right track.

If you're going to bleed it with the master cylinder bolted in place, it may help to jack up the back end of the truck as high as you can.

Since you'll be getting under it, just be careful and use common sense. Jack stands under the axle, front wheels blocked well, etc. etc.

Ok, so when i disconnect the hose from the slave, the pedal is rock hard. Zero play. So from what i can tell this means there is air trapped in the slave or the slave is bad, correct?

that would be my take on the issue, maybe.
if the throw out bearing is not against the pressure plate there will be no resistance until contact.
then there would not be enough pedal travel left to depress the pressure plate.

I'm guessing you used all stock parts for your application? There are couple different sizes of Master/Slave. I've got one "wrong" combo in my truck right now. Mine means the clutch disengages very high in the pedal travel. If it were reversed though it might not disengage at all or very little.

The only thing not oe spec is the pressure pate is none adjustable, i dont have acsess to a press of any kind to adjust it currently.
