Hey everybody!

I'm just south of Madison WI and signed up today mostly just to say 'See ya later!' Not because I think you're bad people or that Rangers suck or something. No, it's because I have to part company with a vehicle that I really like and it bums me out. It is everything I ever wanted in a Ranger, but old age and a new Maverick (I know, I know) force my hand.

It's a 2002 4.0 Auto XLT with the Offroad package that I got from the original owner about 7 years ago:

He bought it new and soon after got a company car, so the Ranger had only 31,000 miles on it when I got it (currently has 42,000). It's still super clean:

As much as I'd like to keep it, it really makes no sense - I don't drive it in the winter because it's too nice for the Wisconsin salt piles (we already have a Mustang for summer duties), the Maverick fits our old-people needs better, and it really should go to someone who can appreciate what it is - a 2-owner, low-mileage, near-rust free creampuff that's been garaged and babied it's whole life.

So that's why I'm here. I've searched craigslist nation wide. I searched the Ranger-related forums and 'for sale' posts. I've even searched Hemmings. I can't find anything for sale that's even close to what this is.

I hope I'm not violating the rules here, but all I want to know is what a fair price would be for a truck in this condition. That, and to find a buyer that won't cut it up.

Thanks, guys! I appreciate any help you can give me, or a direction you can point me in.

BTW - I really am a Ranger guy. I've owned (off the top of my head) years '84, '85, '87, '88, '91, '94, and '02, 2x4 and 4x4, regular cabs and extended, 4 bangers and 6s. They always fit the need at the time.

And I'm really sorry my first post looks like a 'for sale' ad. I hate that. But I need to have some idea what to list it for, and would love to see it end up with somebody here.

I would suggest going to edmunds (free) or kbb (paid) and filling in all the details in the form and hitting submit, it will give you back a number for what you can realistically expect to get out of A) a dealer B) average joe schmoe...... add 10% for that slow "I want every penny I can" sale or go with fair market value to get a reasonable sale... The crappy chinese chip issue and post-covid inflated prices have popped and vehicles are back to fair market value again. That said, with a ton of used stuff going into the economy this week as rich people go out and buy brand new (to avoid trumps tarrif next week), you might even expect a little less due to over-supply / no demand issues.

Thanks for the pointer(s).

I'm less interested in 'every penny' than I am in finding the right owner.

Although I wouldn't decline 'every penny'.

@Hamerhead 1st.
WELCOME TO THERANGERSTATION.

if I may add my two cents.
Once you've come to terms with the price you would like to get for your truck, TheRangerStation here has a classified section where you could post your truck for sell.

That way you would know for sure that the person that buys it from TheRangerStation classified section would be someone that would truly enjoy and treat your truck the way it should be treated.

Okay that's my two cents.

Enjoy the newest addition to your family.
I hope your older family member ends up in a good home.

Thanks!

I want to give it a thorough going-over before it's listed here. The shop where I had the oil changed said it needed a right front tie rod end, so replacing those will be a priority. Plus any cleaning and minor stuff (none I can think of offhand) that needs to be done. There will be no 'surprises' for whoever gets this one.

Two owner, no known issues with only 40k miles on chasis/engine, it is a reasonably desirable package...ask original MSRP -25%.

Thanks.

A neighbor came over with a super clean, rust-free 2009 Tacoma (yeah, I gave him sh!t for that) that had 170,000 miles on it. He paid $12K and was happy as hell to get such a good deal.

I must be waaaay out of the loop. 25% under MSRP is considerably more than I would have thought (and a good bit more than Kelley or Edmunds). I know askin' ain't gettin', but that ballpark really surprises me.

around here, you get KBB or edmunds on pretty much everything except classics - 40's fat fendered trucks and 60's muscle cars... anything that new and it would be (blue) "book value".
