im dead set on a magnaflow exhaust. not sure on the size or if i want single in dual out.
not really even sure what having a larger diamater vs small diameter exhaust will do to sound.

but really i wanna know the difference between a cheap magnaflow (70$) and an expensive one (120$)

its only 50$ but its going to be on an offroader. so im not sure if cheaper will be better. altho i know i dont want to sacrifice great sound because of 50$

btw this is going on a nissan vg30i 3.0 v6. trying to finish the old mans project and get into an rbv.

heard a vg30e with an "over sized" magnaflow and it was great. not sure what he means by over sized.

A flowmaster Super 44 is pretty mean sounding and it's a top notch muffler for $80-$90.

It would sound just as sweet as a magnaflow

I bought a $50 muffler from autozone for my GMC 2500 with a 350. Keeps it pretty damn quiet if you ask me, of course I'm comparing it to not having one at all (didn't have one when I bought it).

I just told the sales person I needed a universal QUIET muffler.

i had a flowmaster 40 on a built 22r. albeit a 4 cylinder still not impressed.

guess ill fork up the cash for a 100$ or more model. after all you get what you pay for.

I put a Thrush Welded muffler on my friend's 454 Chevy pickup, and both he and I really like how it sounds. It was only $40.

That's what I'm running, I like the sound, I'm just running that and the rotary muffler on my Ranger, not too loud but a very good tone somewhere in the middle

I was wondering what a rotary muffler is... I think here they call them a resonator. If its what it think it is I call them fart boxes. Every wannabe motor head here gets one and puts it on his 1.2 liter 4 banger and thinks he is an instant race driver.

I am not saying you do that but I am sure you know the rice runners like I am describing.

My current exhaust is fine on my truck. It doesn't have any rumble but maybe one day I'll do a set up sort of like Brinker's. I like that Flowmaster 1 into 2 and 3" finals to get a bit of rear end rumble.

Rotary muffler would be his turbo :icon_thumby: They naturally quiet down exhaust tones.

I'm having an exhaust system replacement done soon on my 84 bronco 2 from the headers back for $195 with a flowmaster 40 muffler. Had the flowmaster 40 on my 96 jeep grand cherokee and it had a bit of a growl to it, sounded pretty good for a cheap muffler. Personally I wouldn't spend a ton of money on a muffler system for a daily driver, now if you are working on a hot rod, race car etc, maybe, but for a daily driver you don't want to get too obnoxious unless you want the cops picking on you all the time, another thing too is some of those performance mufflers will make you wish you didn't have it after driving around a while you'll end up with a major headache from the noise.

haha ya you mean like a 22r with a flowmaster thats floored in 4th and at 3200 rpms just to hold 65. it was loud and annoying.

A turbocharger rotates and muffles. :icon_twisted:

As far as cheap on a dd, I went that route last time. I would love to have the wasted gas and money back from one of the Thrush glasspacks slowly breaking down and plugging up with debris. Granted I sawzalled it off which probably shook it up a little but once off a bunch of stuff came out and it was completley plugged. The other one had blown the stuffing out and the tube was rattling around inside the housing. I ran them for 50k but they didn't last nearly that long.

I stuck on another pair that I already had from my Ranger adventures a long with a pair of turn downs to get by with and picked up what honestly feels like 100hp over the old mufflers. I do have a pretty pair of new stainless Magnaflows to put on when the money tree will support a new exhaust system.

I won't put another "custom" exhaust on a dedicated dd, they just don't last like the stock ones do are basically a textbook example of a waste of money. If squirrels hadn't filled my stock exhaust with walnuts (why? :icon_confused:) I would have had that put back on... I can't get the dang things out of it though.

I have about $80 in my 2.5" exhaust on my truck (stock turbo pipe is 2 1/4" so I just welded the 45* to that), down pipe to rear bumper, 8' stick of 2.5" pipe, one 45* pipe and a muffler pretty much took care of it, but my pipe doesn't need the bend to go around the axle :)

and yes, rotary muffler=turbo :), it muffles and makes it sound better and more fun to drive... :)

The Ranger that I built with my dad has a custom stainless exhaust from the cats back and a dual-in-dual-out welded Magnaflow muffler.... sounds great!

Of course, that could also have something to do with the 5.0L tucked under the hood. :D

I prefer a welded muffler when I can get one. Those ones with the folded/crimped ends just never seem to last longer than about 1-2 years with all the rust and salt around here. I have a Flowmaster 40 series on my choptop and a Flowmaster 40 knock-off on my F-150. I've been happy with the sound from each.
