It's all about physics... The reason your headlights come slightly yellow from the factory is because it's easier to see at night... Stay away from lights at the upper end of the spectrum...

No, because that's what everyone wants... Just like automatic transmissions, IFS, IRS, A/C, satellite radio, 18" wheels, heated seats, etc... Yes, more light is always nice... BLUE light is not... It scatters too much and it's hard to see... Bulbs that put out more light that is lower in the spectrum are the best... Too bad all the upgrade lights are higher in the spectrum and closer to blue than green...

If you notice in the European le Mans races they have yellow tinited headlights because they are alot better for seeing at night and in the rain.

If you want some new lights I would just get some good quality lights from Phillips or Sylvania...

I like Silverstars (the cheaper versions, I think there's like Silverstar and Silverstar Ultra's or something)... The Ultra's are too blue and make it harder to see... The original Silverstars put out much more light than OEM lights, but they are still yellow enough to be able to see well enough...

cheapest way to get colored lights... paint the bulbs with fingernail polish.
it works, but it sucks, just like the colored lights they're putting on vehicles these days.

get yourself some philips xtreme power bulbs.
these bulbs light the road better than ordinary halogen bulbs.
and they are 10 times better in rain than any blue headlight bulb.

Simply polishing up your headlight lenses will make a TREMENDOUS difference all by itself if they're all yellowed and hazed up from the sun. If you think you still need more light on the road, you could then add on a set of auxiliary lights with FOG lenses, but PLEASE do make sure they are aimed properly!! Not only will it not piss off everyone coming toward you, you'll actually see better too.


As for the lights on newer cars, many use a different technology called HID (High Intensity Discharge), which creates the light using an electric arc inside a tube filled with numerous exotic gasses rather than an incandescent filament (and is why they have a bluish-white or purplish-white color). Blue-colored incandescent (halogen) bulbs will not replicate those at all, not even close.
