I am running a carb on my 302 in my 87 ranger and have come to the point that I need to deal with the charcoal canister sence the fuel tank vents to it. I am useing a Ederbrock 500 cfm with electric choke. How is other hooking this up to vacuum/ what sourse are you useing? Also getting ready to cap off the return at the tank useing a rubber cap.

I took my charcoal canister and chucked it into the trash since my oil filter relocation bracket went there.

I just capped off my vent line to the canister from my tank since my gas cap vents. I know the canister was made for emissions control to keep the gas fumes contained and the electronics would feed the dunes to the engine.

Another thing is does the canister even work properly after all these years? I don't think Ford intended these trucks to last this long.

Also since you are running the same carb, what kind of mpgs are you getting, jet size, rod size, etc...mine is all the way it comes from the factory.

EVAP system uses intake vacuum, so below carbs throttle plate.
It will have an in-line solenoid controlled by the computer.
This system needs to be working if you have to pass smog tests.

Should hook up like this:
Vacuum source--------solenoid--------canister----------Fuel tank

Not at the run stage yet. My oil filter relocation bracket is next to the canister . The gas caps are made to let air into the tank but not out ,the vent line that goes to the canister does that. Still have a the exalast to do and wheels and tires.

Mine lets it out. On hit days I can smell it letting out pressure that may be in the tank but not enough to do anything.

Best thing I can say is hook the line into your intake setup but not close enough to where if you have a back fire it can somehow go into your tank, basically outside of the filter.

My only thing with the carb is getting my truck to start up on warm days, that it's before I have started it that day. I have to pump like 5 times, turn the key enough to turn the fuel pump on them pump like heck while cranking and hope it fires over and get it to a high idle to stay running. I suspect my come needs adjusted because it will start right up when it's cold out.

I will say once you get your setup running, the carb is very easy to adjust, watched YouTube videos on it. Do you plan on running your dizzy on the manifold vacuum port or the ported vacuum port on the carb?
