hey i was looking around at my truck today (1998 ranger) and started wondering why there is the white on the corners of my third brake light, so i pulled it off to find 2 lights there, just one question, how the hell do i get them to turn on??? would ford really go as far as putting cargo lamps in with no switch?:dunno:

roll your dimmer switch all the way up, it'll 'click', then jump out of the truck and look at your third brake light. be amazed at having lights that light up your truck bed.

they're called cargo lights and they do just that, light up the cargo at night.

That or leave a door open they'll turn on as well.

No 98+ was wired to do so. Don't think any ranger was wired to do so. F150's and othe fullsizes, yes, but not the ranger. At least in not in stock form. If someone did the 04+ cargo third brake light mod, they would do as you describe, even on a 03 and older truck.

You'd think Ford would keep it the same all the way through the trucks :dunno: oh well.

Yeah I knew that was the case, I wish mine would work like that. I'm thinking i need a new switch.

How do you turn on the dome light? Some dome lights turn on with a switch on the light itself. If that's the case, the switch on the dash is working fine and you probably are not wired for cargo lights. My buddy's 98 is this way. How many wires do you have going to the brake light/ cargo lights?

^^Same answer.... roll the dimmer switch up.

Some Rangers came with map lights in the dome light, mine did(03 and older xcabs). There's a switch at the dome light, and those map lights turn on when you open the door, or roll the dimmer switch up.

All 93-03 = 3 wires to the TBL
Some 03/Definately 04+ = 2 wires to the TBL.

To get cargo lamps to light up on 04+, or to get them to light up on 03 and older when you open the door, just tap the black/pink wire at the third brake light 3 bulb harness, and run a wire to the 12v hot on the dome light.

my 90 does when ever you open the door.

I bet your 90 doesn't have third brake light either...
