Ok guys, finally got the engine in and mounted! But my friend and I am having trouble deciding what to do on this damn throttle cable..

I have a newer style ranger 94' and it has the 2 pins and springs on the pedal side and a newer style cable which just looks like a mess to hook up compared to the old style cables.

Can anyone point me in a direction to a drop in cable that will hook up at both ends and function easily without much modification at each end or at firewall? Or what you guys have used on an older engine newer pedal style system? Also what do I need for the kickdown to work in this setup I assume theres a bracket system that could be purchased just want to see what you guys have done

Ive heard 83-85 Mustang GT 5.0 cables will work and also that ppl have used stock cables but I assume thats newer cables to efi 302's. Dont wanna get something and have to return or be stuck with it if it wont work.

Oh and its a79' 302 form a T-bird with a holley 4160 on top single feed w edelbrock performer intake and a ol FMX trans w kickdown obviously..if that all matters

Thanks as always in advance!
CK.

I used my 94 pedal and cable and took the bracket off the 4.0 and cut the notch where it clamped to and modified it to bolt onto my intake. The ball socket is the same on my edelbrock as it was on the throttle body

I assume the 3.0L bracket would be the same? Do you have any pictures?

I used an 85 Mustang GT cable and an early 70's throttle cable bracket. Bought the cable from the local Ford dealer. Not sure you can still do that now, it's been ten years since I bought that cable

None of those cable brackets will work. The one I used is the stock bracket used on early 70's Ford cars with a 302 or 351W. It bolts to the bolt bosses behind the carb pad and the cable drops into the "U" and is retained by a short screw thru the hole in the cable tab. As for the kickdown, I have no idea. I just left the kickdown off and downshifted manually.

Go to ebaymotors. Look up item number 170816170310. That's the bracket you need. It should bolt right onto your Performer intake (I'd a used an RPM, but that's just me) and the throttle cable will slip right into the U, and take a short 3/8" headed screw (wood thread, not machine thread) to secure it.

Ok awesome as always you are full of information! And ya i think it is a rpm intake but the bracket should still be the same i take it

Yea, should be no difference in the bracket mounting bosses.
