carb 302 engine buildl up.

im going to start building up a carb 302 i beleive for my 88 ranger curently EFI 2.9

what would be the best rebuild kit i havnt decided a goal or budget for the build yet. but first off what would be a good performance rebuild kit without spending over $800.

also what should i look at for upgrading brakes im going to swap a 8.8 rear end in. are all 8.8s posi? and do all explorers come with them? thanks alot for help

if you have an good rotating block , just turn the crank , recon the rods , bore it like
.030 over with hypertenic pistons . they about 30 percent stronger than cast . plus they are good for 75-100 shot of nos..... thats what is did ... which cost about 800.00
or you can buy an short block on ebay for the same price w / warrenty .
i didnt cause i had an 91 cobra short block all ready ..

You could use this kit from Summit (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEM-MHP174-000/) and then find a good machine shop to do all the machine work and you should be just under your 800 dollar mark. I have used this same kit on a Mustang I did with no problems. You will need to choose your own cam, lifters and timing chain set.

No all 8.8s don't have a trac. lok. If you use a explorer axle with disk brakes you will need to upgrade your master cylinder and will have to get the spring mounts moved.
I'm running a 8.8 out of a 04 FX4 ranger direct fit. The FX4 axles have 10" drums, 31 spline axles, and trac. lok. Also have cross drilled rotors up front it stops better than it did with the 4 banger.
