If you dont have a gas cap...will gas evaporate out the filler?

I know i put 2 or 3 gallons in my bronco (a couple months ago), did nothing but drive it around the yard and up and down the road a few times....went out to start it yesterday to show it off a bit to a buddy of mine and it wouldnt start....classic out of gas sputtering and cranking.

Im gonna dump more in today....but it doesnt leak so its all i can figure...unless having it parked pointed down a slight hill starved the pickup.

Still waiting on our mechanic to give me a weekend to weld up the ass end. Starting to get a bit frusterated on that one.

Yes. Gasoline will evaporate if there isn't a cap to seal off the filler neck. Not as bad as if you had gas sitting out in a open bowl or drip pan but it will evaporate.

I kinda figured. Im gonna dump 5 in it today and go pull the cap off rusty #1 then.

I know it will evaporate...but wasnt sure if it would being in the tank.

Thanks.

Gas evaporating is why new Jerry cans have the stupid Obama nozzles on them.

Forgot you got the bronco though.. hows it going?

its running mostly like a champ. I think its got a TPS issue...at just barely throttle it surges bad. It also idles wonky at times lol.

Just waitin on the guy to weld it up for me. Hoping before winter. Just gotta get good brakes on it (booster/master/wheel cyls) and a turn signal switch she'll be ready to rock n roll.

Oh, and it was in fact out of gas

Here in Texas outside summer temperatures can hit 110 easy all throughout history.
I've read that is actually the bare minimum temperature 🌡 for gasoline to start boiling or turning into vapor.
Combined with metal components, inside the cab is 130 at 110 or even higher.
Fuel rail inside the power barn with hood down is definitely over the outside temperature so I imagine the tank can get real hot just sitting there especially in the sun.
If it's starting to vapor yeah the cap is going to cause it to leak.

Heatsoak from engine and return line will also raise temperature of fuel, most of it might not be liquid going back towards the tank.
