I have a 89 ranger 2.3 5spd 2wd i put a new fuel pump filter and injectors in it and it will run for a little while then sounds like backfire and cuts off but one min i have 40lbs of fuel at fuel rail the next i have air can someone please help me figure this out? respond quickly

are all you connections in the fuel lines good and tight?

Anytime you have a backfire check the electrical- firing at the wrong time. And since most of your fuel lines are going to be pressurized coming from the tank, there is little chance you are getting air in the lines without a big time leak. Can't explain where the air would be coming from unless there is something amiss in the tank...

And I suppose it could be the FP regulator...

when was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

Have you pulled any codes? That is where I would start to see if diagnostics have picked up anything.
